We are feeding the birds, as we do all year round, as it is important to encourage lots of wildlife into your garden and provide food for them especially at this leaner time of year. So i have splashed out on a bird feeding station as Sophie and I like to watch the birds that come and visit us.
When we first moved into our house i made a bird table, well i did a really bad job at trying to make one. I found a large 2x2 at the top of the garden and i used the bathroom shelves that were left from the last people who live in our house and just banged them together with some nails and stuck a bird table on the top. It has lasted 3 years and we have had many birds land and enjoy the tit bits we leave out.
After 3 years of fat pigeons landing on the shelves you can see what a sorry state it is now with wonky platforms with the seed growing in the shelves as the weather has been very wet and we have been away so the seeds have grown into grass. the slate has blown off part of the house and one of the bird feeders is broken from being bashed about in all this blustery weather. Defiantly time for an upgrade, and one i wont be making this time.
Here is the new bird feeder which we have placed next to our grape vine so any timid little birds can hop from the vine to the station. This looks like luxury compared to what we were offering before, with an array of tasty morsels to temp lots of different birds, we have peanuts, food for robins, food for sparrows and food for tits and not forgetting those big fat pigeons. Sophie was very helpful and insists on helping any chance she gets and was involved at sorting the seeds and hanging them up. Now all we need to do is wait and hope that the birds prefer the upgraded feeding station.
