French Apple tart

This weeks theme anything Nostalgic

Because the house smells great with fresh baking and its always nice to lick the spoon of your creation and share a slice of cake.

Its nice to have some home baking in the house for the week, to feed hungry mouths when they come home from school, having tea and cake with fellow mummies over a play date, or 4 o'clock snacks between lunch and dinner wouldn't be the same without a cookie or two.

What ever the reason its good to get into the kitchen especially with little ones to give them the practical skills in measuring, mixing and taste as well as satisfaction that they have created and cooked something themselves.

Every 1-2 weeks I will be sharing a cake recipe because I cant share a slice of cake with you and I encourage you to share a slice of your home baking with me and anyone else that links up to this post.  Please show some love to others that put post up,  as linkies only work if you share and i cant think of anything nicer to share that a good slice of cake

This week i thought it would be interesting to find out if you bake anything that reminds you of a fond place you have traveled to or lovely memory that when you smell and taste the bake your transported back to that point in time.  For me there is one thing that brings back very fond memories, in my 20's i toured France and the vine yards going to as many regions as possible, talking with the french owners and learning about the climate, soil and most importantly the grapes and how they change so much from region to region as well as getting to taste the prized wines and see how the EU had effected their process with the big metal tanks as well as seeing that many owners had now got a private cellar with the old traditional process wines stashed away i also got to taste some of the most fabulous fresh walnut liquors which i have never ever found anywhere else.  The French vineyard owners are the most open and warm welcoming people i have met and very often i ended up sitting at their family dinner table ending up very sozzled at the end of the meal as there were pre dinner drinks and a different drink for ever course and there were 5 courses as well as after dinner drinks Wowzers.
One of the things we would do is wander off to the local patisserie to take a token offering to the table.  I adored going to the patisserie's even in the small villages it was a serious business with shelves of the most amazing deserts continental torts, profiteroles, large rum balls and apple tarts.  Even something so simple as an apple tart looked fantastic and they tasted amazing the crunch of the puff pastry for which the sweet apples sat topped in a crispy shine of melted sugar and as we carried off our posh boxes tided with pretty ribbons i could feel the warm apple tart inside begging to be opened and eaten alongside an amazing desert wine that had been set aside just for the eating of that tart.

This recipe is very simple
puff pastry
Sliced apples
topped with brown sugar
