Ella update

Week 9 and we are still struggling on with colic it is all day and i seem to be eating less and less types of food its getting a tad ridiculous so today i ate nothing and guess what COLIC !!!! Arrrrrr

We are so used to Ella crying all day that we just get on with it as you can see even Sophie isn't phased by the constant yelling, and she does her best to try and cheer her up.

Week 10 saw Ella go for her first injections and oral medication, she did cry as they were the deep tissue injections one in each leg poor thing ... one of her legs has got a bit red and swollen but that is to be expected.

The oral medication acted like a laxative on her which was kind of good and bad as she hadn't done a poo in 3 days and when it came it with an explosive fart that shot liquid poo up her back to her neck and in her hair!!!! how the hell that happened i don't know, down her legs and all over me.  She weighs 11lbs 7oz now i wonder if she weighed more before the explosive poo???

Week 11 Ella has definitely found her voice and is making some lovely sounds and her opinion is to be heard in the family.  Colic is still rife and i am really close to giving her some baby rice as this helped Sophie when she had colic but i am in two minds as she is still little and seems satisfied with the boobies

Week 12   That is it the Colic has to go we are 3 months in and Ella is getting some baby rice funny how your mind can change in a week but i have quite had enough now ... and surprise surprise the colic goes 2 days later.  The same thing happened with Sophie who also had colic and we weaned her and a few days later the colic disappeared.  Im not advocating this as a cure and i did wait till 12 weeks so her tummy was a bit more mature but there must be some link here, her first rice portion was small and very milky and she did wriggle and have a little cry but loved eating it and the second day she managed to digest it fine no crying at last that awful colic is no more.

Ella has discovered how to roll over now which has now started to make her angry and cry as she is trapped like a little turtle on her back ... cant wait for the no crying stage!!

  1. Glad things are settling. I always found just giving them the boob helped with all problems. She's a girl - do we have a no crying stage? Yay for rolling.

  4. Colic is hideous! Splosh had it for ages, it was baby rice that cured it for him too! Mind you that was a long time ago and the HV advised me to try it - at 9 weeks. Babies was weaned earlier in them days!

    1. when i had sophie they were ok about weaning at 12 weeks no the NHS are saying 6 months, how crazy. i wonder if there's something in the weaning that sorts out the colic maybe they are crying because they are so darn hungry lol

  7. Thankfully we didn't have the colic stage for that long but I do remember it. I also gave Ethan rice early, I think I started the weaning at four months. I was told off as I was meant to wait until 6 months! Ethan kept being sick and I felt he needed weight in his stomach and it helped. Sometimes we have to do what we feel is right. I'm glad it worked for you.

Thanks for linking up with Small Steps Amazing Achievements :0)

  8. Colic is horrible, I'm so glad you've been able to ease it. I seem to remember we started POD on milky baby rice earlier too. I hope you get less crying and more sleeps soon. Seems you're heading in the right direction. Thanks for sharing with #whatsthestory

  9. Colic is awful. 19 years ago it ruined my first 3 months with my first. My 4th had it and responded to baby massage really well - so much so that at 5 years old he still goes into a trance if you stroke him! My 5th had colief - that was like magic. They do all grow out of it at 3 months, but I think you are so exhausted at that point that solids give you the relief you need as a parent to carry on :)
