A book for bed time Dora the explorer

Dora the explorer and little star's big adventure is written by Shawn Currie and illustrated by Dave Aikins, Susan Hall, Victoria Miller and A&J Studios.

We tend to use this book as the last book in Sophie's reading set of the night as we read it with the lights off and use the torch to cast the shadows from the cut out shapes from the pop up book
The book has a number of different cut out pop ups with ones that you can cast on your wall like these scary trees or pop ups with holes in like stars and lizards or shapes of bats, wolves that can be cast in the back drop of the story.

This book is very interactive and comes with a torch that has sound buttons that you press as you read the story. Sophie tends to be given this torch and who ever is reading is given a wind up torch (not supplied) to help read in the dark and help Sophie create the shadows with.

The idea of the story is good but it does tend to slip a little bit of Spanish in the story as Dora is Spanish and we think this ruins the flow of the reading making you stumble on your words as you try and pronounce Spanish words, but there are not to many so you could always skip them or make your own part of the story up.   Also as this book is a pop up it is one to be supervised as little fingers would tear the cut outs , also we make sure the torch is put back so its not lost in her toys.  Overall the concept is lots of fun and a step toward lights out which is always a plus.
