Smile International

Sophie has been given the chance to do her first bit of charity work with smile international. We had never heard about this before and it was brought to us through Sophie's pre school.

Smile international do lots of charitable activities such as building schools  but one that children in our country can help with and understand is a shoebox full of smiles.  Where our children give a shoebox of gifts to then be sent to children in villages, schools and orphanages in refugee centres such as Balkans, Africa and Asia.   These children have very little or nothing at all and maybe be suffering from war or political pressures in their own country.  The meaning of receiving these gifts i can only imagine bring a slight and momentary relief from what the children have to deal with on a day to day basis.

We got our shoe box wrap and wrapped it up in pretty paper and fill it with lots of goodies, we sent sweeties, a teddy, a pencil case with pencils and a sharpener, a colouring book. Some new clothes, knickers as well as we had chosen this time to do a gift box for a girl. Wind up toys as we couldn't send battery operated ones as the children would not be able to to get replacement batteries. We put in a spinning top and a bouncy ball, soap, toothpaste and a new toothbrush for personnel care. by the time that was in the box was fit to burst and although there was so much more we could think of to put in it wouldn't fit, we hope that what we have put in will indeed bring a smile to a child somewhere.   We hope that the school does this next year as well, as this is such a touching and worthy cause.
