Steam train ride at Chinnor

Today we took a ride on an old fashioned steam train, and felt very Harry Potter'ish as the big rumberling huffing and puffing train pulled itself into Chinnor station.

The station was a real blast from the past and the buildings had been fully restored to there former glory even the staff looked authentic in their period uniforms and cheery dispositions.  The Railway operates as part of the old Great Western Railway branch line and runs from Chinnor to almost Princes Risbough, the future they plan to build the remaining track on to Princes Risbough but this will take time as the railway is run entirely by volunteers and their funding is obtained from donations and running the train service.
.

We hurriedly bought tickets again these were old fashioned tickets and will make a great keepsake of the day and we boarded the steps into another world and felt very under dressed I'm sure we would have felt more at home in a nice hat and suit or dress as we sat in our own private compartment on some very plush and comfortable red seats. We got settled in and the driver pulled hard on the whistle with a happy Toot toot to let us all know we were about to move.

The Train lurched forward and the steam puffed in great clouds around the train and we sped off into the country side along the base of Chilton hills with an old familiar and comforting chug chug of the pistons.  Sophie was awe struck at the new noises, movement, smell of steam and coal as we raced past fields of horses, sheep and quaint cottages and was happy sticking her head out of the window to get the full train experience.
