Wild walk

When the weather is good we love to get outdoors and explore, Sophie loves nature and her nick name is wild thing. So today we decided to go on a mini beast hunt.  We headed to the wild walk in Waddesdon, a great stroll to take in woodland nature with lots of surprises along the way.

There are many large fallen trees just perfect for wild thing to climb and explore. The tree in this picture was a lot higher off the ground than it looks, you can walk under the tree with arms above your head and still would not be able to touch the trunk.  Even daddy was afraid to go across the trunk.

We do love to hunt for bugs, and are looking for some inspiration for a new mini beast hotel for when we move. We found this cool twisted stump surrounded in mossy branches.  Then even better a pile of moss covered rocks and logs. But wait it got bigger and better with a massive stone and log circle with loads of fungi growing.
Sophie spent ages with her spy glass exploring and searching out all the small and wriggly beasts running about getting on with their little lives, unaware of a giant above them watching.

Walking on up the hill there were a collection of strange and interesting cut logs and knobbly branches.
With so many trees those buggies had now where to hide as the intrepid explorer searched high as well as low, and she enjoyed hanging out above all of us.

The walk was a good length, and it took our family longer than most to get round as we stopped to look at everything, it is so good to get close up and take time with nature.
Just when we thought the Mini beast hotels couldn't get any better we found the Dubai of mini beast hotels. This MEGA pile of logs were amazing and of course Sophie has instructed daddy that he needs to build this one as her very own mini beast hotel.

  9. Oooo it's like a bug paradise in all those holes drilled into the logs. I've been meaning to make a bug hotel type of thing - but I think the hanging drilled log idea is brill - totally nicking that to do at home!
Thanks for joining in again - and good to see you all out exploring! x

  12. Sometimes it is easy to forget the miniature world that is all around us and it takes a child with a magnifying glass to bring it to our attention. Well done Sophie!
