Gardening in April

Well the gardening is really ramping up now it is April, and it's all about weeding, and its the best time to do it while they are still tender as you can pull them out root and all with out getting a shovel out. Planting seeds and watering has defiantly become Sophie's forte and she learnt to do pinching fingers and evenly spread seeds over the soil she is also a dab hand with her little pink watering can. re potting the smaller plants up a pot or in the ground was also on the agenda, we had 2 disasters where peas and cucumbers didn't come up so have had to start from scratch and buy new seeds and re pot. We also got grooming in the garden to help it look more structured, by mowing, striping and edging the lawn, squaring up the box hedges.

Our old garden furniture which was wooden and quite old finally died and all we were left with was 2 dodgy chairs after the table and other chair fell to bits. We had been collecting for a while some B&Q vouchers and managed to get £250 of them and so we thought it was probably time to trade them in and get new furniture plus B&Q were have a weekend special of an additional 20% off which really helped in driving down the price. Daddy spent the Sunday morning putting it together with his work mate Sophie who keenly watched and then choose a spanner and copied daddy putting the nuts and bolts together. I'm sure all parents think their children are amazingly clever but I'm so amazed what this little 19 month year old can do given the chance to be included in the daily activities.

After the furniture was made we  headed back out into the garden to deal with our green house which is rammed with pots of all sorts of plants growing, I had labeled these up with Lolly sticks so I knew what they were, but some little fingers have swiped some of the sticks and swapped them about, I will have to wait and see what comes up and guess what it is, the little bugger.  We did get the broad beans planted out and used the tops of the plastic bottles as mini green houses to help the harden them off for a week or so and keep any mice and pigeons off.  After a hard day gardening we ended up with a big burn up to get rid of all the cardboard from the furniture and some dried out garden rubbish, it was a really clear night so we could see loads of stars and finally tumbled into bed well and truly knackered.
