Toulon

Today we opened the curtains and was greeted by blue sky and warm weather we had reached Toulon.

Toulon Is Frances largest natural military port and home to the French navel base all around us were big war ships that were still in use.
Also some that were no longer used and had come here as a final resting place and gave a lot of interest to look at as they lay sleeping in the water.
Toulon is a great place to get a real flavour of Provence as tourism really has not taken hold of this town and so you really get the Provence feel
The Market was a bustle of people and the colours, scent of food and the vegetables that have grown with all that sunshine was wonderful.  Intermingling the market were coffee shops and people relaxing and chatting drinking coffee.  The Vibe of Toulon was exactly this slower, calm and happy we were really taken with Toulon and as the day went on this was somewhere we all wanted to come back to again for a break.
We found some wonderful shops and even the shops were visually merchandised completely different to UK these were done with flair and were an eye feast of goodies, we couldn't resist going into a toy shop and Sophie got a French music box that was very pretty.
Even though there was a navel port which was very understated and a port for the every day boat there were the most lovely empty beaches to go and relax on with soft golden sand and warm waters from the Mediterranean.
We took a tour around the town on a little train which Sophie enjoyed, and we learnt that in the first world war that 47% of Toulon had been destroyed which we felt shocked about and although there were some wonderful old building about you could see that they had to developed after fast in a rebirth to house the masses as there were some concrete house intermingled with charming building typically French with balconies.

The French really do ports with style as Toulon is one of the most beautiful in Europe even though is it home to military and normal ships as well, there were many yachts and being so close Saint Tropez you could see the wealth in between all the other lovely yachts bobbing about in the port.
We were told as we did the tour that Frances Nuclear submarine was hidden in a secret under water doc and that it was all very secret, but look what we found as left port !!!!
