July Clandestine cake club meeting no 3

July has come and this so called summer has not dampened the spirits of the Clandestine cake club as we celebrate all things summer fruits.

This events secret location was held at Rumseys a chocolaterie and coffee shop where we were lucky to have a section cornered off just for us to celebrate all things cake all washed down with frothy cappuccino's served by attentive and pleasant staff.

Once again the turn out was amazing and once again our club has grown as the success of the Clandestine cake club spreads, lots of fresh faces with scrummy cakes turned up along side the regulars.  With so many new faces this means only one thing more and more cakes to sample and talk about
Our leader and chair lady Arden made this midsummer blueberry cake which was a heavenly slice and has a gorgeous gooey centre.  She really didn't need to as we could tell but she confessed to the cake disaster of the sponge sinking due to temperature change and tricky baking in Summer but made up for it by filling said sunk part with lots and lots more blueberries to be extra decadent.  Clever lady!
Ginny ever the show stopper of cakes brought this beautiful raspberry ripple cake.  Ginny's childhood memory are strongly of raspberry ripples which inspired her to make this cake which is an Edd kinmber recipe from The boy who bakes book.
Sandra King also has memories from when she was 11 years old and holidays in Austria and the amazing cakes, this Black forest was inspired from these memories and her recipe was from the good food website and it did not disappoint the fudgy chocolate was divine.
Ann's brought a Tunisian orange cake topped in cinnamon and cloves the polenta sponge was soaked in orange and lemon syrup and is also gluten free.
Janet is one of our newest members and made this twist on summer fruits with apricot, apples and almonds
Rostina Petcher is celebrating her 2nd CCC meeting and this sandcastle cake was was impressive as she combined the theatre of a sandcastle shape with her favourite ice lolly the Twister and flavoured her vanilla cake with strawberry jam, lime marmalade and pineapple frosting and chocolate.
Natasha offered the group a truly lovely sponge filled with summer fruits and almonds and great with a nice cup of tea.
Lucy a brand new member brought along her rather skilful son Angus who helped baked this Avoca cafe cake,  (Watch out for Angus in the future Heston as this up and coming talent is a force to be reckoned with) The Chocolate and orange cake has 1/2 pound of chocolate and 1/2 pound of double cream in it and all topped off with Chocolate orange slices and has memories of holidays in Dublin
Margaret one of our old school CCC members is very experienced now at bringing something to delight the members and she made this clever Lemon meringue cake where she bake meringue onto the cake sponge and then placed in the centre mascarpone and lemon curd, this was a homage to her Nana who made the most amazing lemon meringue pies her recipe was from You magazine.
Jill Gray has been sitting on a recipe from a M&S book for 25 years and thought now is the perfect time to try this Caribbean coffee cake which is a fatless sponge soaked in rum and uses chocolate coco beans and coffee, We are all glad she decided to treat us to this much hoarded recipe.
Pat ever inspired by Australia treated us to this blueberry cake topped with frosting her recipe is one she got from Waitrose.
Juidith Forster now retired has not baked in a long time and we are glad she has dusted off her over mitts and joined us to bake once more as her Austrian coffee and walnut cake which was soaked in coffee syrup hit the spot nicely.
Emma fantasy holidays are placed in the Caribbean and how more perfect than a Coconut cake soaked in Malibu to whisk you away to a desert island recipe from Delia

Jenny North and her Torta di Nocie Ricotta is a gluten free Italian inspired walnut and ricotta baked cheese cake
Jo turn up just in time and her cake was worth the wait and this is a special cake her mum used to make a Caribbean fruit cake where her fruit has been soaking for 3 months in rum, brandy and red wine just for this unveiling, Jo's top tip for a deep rich colour use gravy browning.
If your wondering what i offered the cake loving ladies i made this summer fruits cheesecake and topped it all off with lots of fruit and gold leaf just to be a show off ! I made a cheesecake as an alternative offering to the table and the recipe is from the hummingbird book if some what adapted to my style
After introductions we were all champing at the bit to get dug into the vast array of cakes and we were truly spoilt for choice.
After two hours of we certainly did the cakes much justice and we were all very happy to have met for a nice chat and eat some exceptional cakes,  looking forward to the next meeting where we will celebrate all things harvest with sweet and savoury cakes being up for offer.  If you want to know more about the Clandestine cake club see Here Clandestine cake club
