Nettle Soap

This Sunday was spent foraging out in the woodlands for the first of the young and tender spring nettles.  nettles contain some amazing healing properties and i consider to be a super plant.

Here are a couple of simple search links on Google that advocate nettles Herbal legacy and live and feel if your interested in more details of nettle properties.

I collected my nettle early in the morning while still fat from all the dew and no where near any roads or dog walking path, if fact its one as a forager you tend to develop your own known location of woodland and hedgerow secret store cupboards. I only take to very top new sprouting leaves leaving the rest of the plant behind as this is a valuable habitat and food source for wildlife.  There are all sorts of ways to use the healing properties of nettles last year we did following,

Nettle tea

and my favourite Nettle beer this one is a must try it is simply the loveliest thing we have ever drunk, it smells and tastes divine.

This year however i made some lovely dark green Nettle soap from the tender new sprigs and added this to lushus Extra virgin olive oil and Shea butters a NEW recipe to create 12 bars of super nourishing soothing bubbling bars of soap.  These always do well in the craft fair and i have a few ladies that like to use it as it helps their rheumatism.  Nettles are just wonderful things.

  3. This looks like such a great soap. To be honest, although I knew nettle was great for eating, I've never heard of it being good for rheumatism. Clever plant...

  5. Wow this is great. I have never used nettles before. Might have to give it a go. There was a nettle soup I saw on Pinterest that look quite interesting. Just have to find some thick gloves!
