Christmas hits the house

We have a tradition in our house that the first weekend of December all the Decs come out and the house starts to get ready for Christmas, tinsel, lights and baubles everywhere.  In the last 10 years we have been total been tree snobs and bought real Christmas trees.

But we have had a change of heart we have fallen for a fake tree which we have been looking over for the last 3 years and decided to take the plunge and get it, or rather i got fed up and went and got it and made my poor hubby fall to his knees when i came home with the bill.  I think when we have totted up over the last 10 years we must have spent £300 on Christmas trees and they always mark up the wall with the sap or dirt and we have just decorated as you can see nice clean light walls.  Plus im so glad not to have to hoover up twice a day for all the needles that are dropping, I'm sure this will be a tree for life and we think it looks pretty grand and has a nice shape we also went for one that could fool Santa as it looked so real.

Our Christmas cake this year is definitely not traditional in looks but that is what you get when you let a 3 year old loose with lots of fondant and colour and she had great fun making home made marzipan for the fruity cake and then whipping up the icing and swirling the colours about on the cake most of it flowed over but the mess is part of the fun.
We also changed from our normal traditional leafy wreath for the door to something a bit modern as i was bored of doing the same thing and we quite liked the wooden heart we got for Halloween, so we dressed that up instead.  Lots of silver bells, red berries and twinkly lights plus a little bird to keep watch over the door.  So as we settle in front of the open fire and teh Christmas lights twinkle we are looking forward to the big day and that a little change in the way we do things has turned out positive and fun.

  1. And it all looks fabulous! I think fake Christmas trees are so much "better looking" nowadays. I am quite tempted myself, after our almost bald one last year, I couldn't wait to take it down :D

  2. As much as i love xmas im just as quick to tidy it away the day after boxing day all the decs come down i just got so frustrated with the dead tree with no needles lurking in the courner of the room depressing me so maybe this year xmas will hang around a bit longer.
