Jubilee Cookie cutters

Here are the other wonderful Crown cookie cutters which are an exclusive from Lakeland that i mentioned in my Vegetable flags post.  So if your getting ready for your Jubilee party a cookie shaped like a crown is a must have.

Again another amazingly mummy friendly pocket purchase as these only cost £2.99 and are such great quality as the metal cutters are coated in a colourful protective plastic seal that will make them hard wearing and last a life time.  I am glad there is still great affordable items like this to buy as fun activities to do with little ones that are not pinching on the purse, and we couldn't wait to try them out.
Sophie chose to make peanut butter cookie dough which we rolled out and started to stamp out the crown shapes.  Sophie found the cutters easy to handle and the dough did not stick to the cutters which was great as the shape are intricate in places and we could have easily lost a prong on a crown, but we didn't and i think it was down to the coating i mentioned earlier.
Even after baking the cookies held there shape really well and no prongs were lost or damaged and the cookies made the house smell divine.
We made up our icing and Sophie was chief stirrer making the colours, we made a firm lining icing and a flood icing to fill the cookies.

After lining the cookies, mummy flooded them and Sophie decorated with lots of lovely stars, smarties, sprinkles and silver balls.  You have to have a silver ball on a crown !
this was a nice long activity and lasted all afternoon and there was much licking of icing and we cant wait for the cookies to dry so we can taste a Jubilee crown cookie.

  8. Your cookies are so cute! I was thinking about getting these cutters, and now I definitely will!
What recipe did you use for your icing? All the royal icing recipes I find online use meringue powder, which isn't ideal...
