Stir it up sunday

Well its the 25th of November and its stir it up Sunday which for those that don't know its when you make your Christmas puddings and Christmas cakes.  I had already made my Christmas pudding the year before as i made two and heard that if you save one over the year the flavours of the Christmas pudding just get better with age so we will be testing this out this year.

However little miss couldn't wait to get into the kitchen to start off one of many Christmas activities, hands washed and apron on she started measuring out all the ingredients.

We spent a good deal of time creaming the butter and dark sugar together to make sure it was all fully mixed and light and fluffy, and even more hand mixing the eggs and flour a bit at a time and we came up with a great tip of using the turkey baster so Sophie could gently add a bit of egg slowly to the mix rather than accidently dumping a whole bowl and egg and curdling the mix.

Finally we got to the bit where we got to add the fruit and we have a big tub of boozy fruit that has been sozzerling for since August in various brandy, port etc and it smelt very lovely.

and we added this to our cake mix and as tradition we all took turns stirring the fruit into the cake mix making wishes.
After lining the tin and adding the mix the cake took 3 hours to cook on a low setting and the house was filled with the smell of Christmas, now all that left is to feed it more brandy for a week or so before we decorate it.
