Sodium bicarbonate and vinegar for kids
Seeing as were in the experimenting mood and our Flour clouds went well, today we did more experimenting with Sodium bicarbonate and vinegar.
I set up some pots and cups and put plenty of sodium bicarbonate in each cup and a mixture of glitter and liquid colours and scents so when Sophie added the vinegar not only did it fizz but it gave off different smells, colours and sparkled.
There was lots of laughing and ooooing from Sophie when the pots fizzed and she even got a wiff of the scents i put in too.
After all the fizzing had happened she played happily still spooning the mixture and exploring the consistence.
PART TWO ADDING FAIRY LIQUID
So today we tried the experiment again but we added fairy liquid to the mix as well of course we added glitter and colour again just for fun.
As you can see the foam this time was thicker and stayed for a lot longer and went on for ever and the more Sophie mixed it with the addition of a little more vinegar it reacted it again and again
We even had a go at trying to make a volcano but the bubbles were so dense and thick they pushed the funnel off the pot so i had to hold it in place and try and take a photo so i didn't get the big explosion part.
i have to say my platter we played on came up sparling clean after we had finished
Flour cloud dough
Storms are blowing over the UK lots of wind and rain creating havoc, blowing down trees and walls and worse. Sophie spent the start of the morning pressing her nose to the window in awe of the weather.
So we put on a lovely raincoat and hat Sophie got from Aunty Ann and put on our wellies and went puddle hunting on the way to the shops.
We only made it half way down the road and the wind was so fierce and blew little Sophie all about that she ended up being carried to the shops and back again, and with the weight of the shopping too. I think i have arms to compete with Jeff capes now. When we got home we decided to make some clouds of our own.7 cups of flour and 1 cup of baby oil with a selection of tools for Sophie to explore with was set up and little madam was thrilled to have the chance to experiment and loved the two different types of spoon to take her time spooning oil into the flour.
Making little lakes of oil rolling off the soft flour was fun and it felt great on the hands and we buried our fingers, squished and squashed and made shapes, castles and monsters and we got out the googly eyes to help give the monster a look at what we were doing.
When all the oil and flour was mixed in we got all sparkly and added lots of glitter stars and some treasure which we dug about and hid and found.
Try this fun Rainbow baby safe dough
